Berkane Wins the "Seoul Smart City Prize"Â Â
Another achievement has been added to the repertoire of Berkane's territory, shining its name internationally, this time in Seoul at the "Seoul Smart City Prize," an event aimed at promoting an innovative and inclusive smart city model that puts the most disadvantaged groups at the heart of its strategy, based on information and communication technologies. It is also a world-renowned competition that celebrates innovation and excellence in the field of smart cities. This year, more than 200 projects from 47 countries around the world were submitted to compete in this elite competition. Among these projects, Berkane stood out as the sole representative of Morocco and the African continent..Â
The winning project, named "E-Moulouya," embodies a significant advancement on a global scale in the field of digital technology applied to wildlife monitoring at the mouth of the Moulouya River. The "E-Moulouya" project has set a new global benchmark by integrating digital technology into environmental monitoring. It focuses on the observation and analysis of wildlife ecosystems at the mouth of the Moulouya, an area of crucial importance for biodiversity and environmental conservation. This flagship project represents a cornerstone of His Majesty the King's ongoing commitment to sustainable development and is in line with previous royal initiatives launched in the Berkane region, including the development of the SaÃŊdia tourist resort as a sustainable seaside resort. This will undoubtedly enhance its resilience to climate change. Â
This innovative project is based on Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), a powerful combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), to establish real-time monitoring to provide crucial information about the delicate balance of life in this ecosystem. By combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of environmental sciences, "E-Moulouya" empowers researchers and environmental activists to make informed decisions to protect and preserve the natural beauty of this site of biological and ecological interest.Â
