Solidarity and Inclusion: A Collective Iftar at Berkane Prison 

In a gesture filled with compassion and solidarity, the penitentiary institution of Berkane, in collaboration with the urban commune of Berkane, organized a collective iftar on 22 Ramadan 1445 (corresponding to April 2, 2024) for the inmates of the local prison. This significant event was attended by many prominent figures, including the prison director, Deputy Hakim Ben Abdellah, the President of the Commune of Berkane, Mohamed Ibrahimi, council president and his vice-presidents Mme Mounia Fethi and Mr. Mohamed Bouyaalaoui and Mr. Mohammed Zahiri, and other public figures from the local community. 

 The iftar began with an introductory speech by Mr. Nour Eddine Cherif, followed by a speech from Mr. Mohamed Ibrahimi on the significance of this Ramadan activity. The inmates then participated in various religious activities, including Quran recitation and religious songs. Cultural prizes were awarded to the winners of the religious singing contest, while sports prizes were given to the winners of the football tournament. Mr. Mohamed Ibrahimi, President of the Berkane communal council, had the honor of presenting the religious prizes, while the cultural prizes were distributed by the delegate of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, and the sports prizes by the judge of sentence enforcement. Other special prizes were awarded by personalities such as the deputy and the deputy public prosecutor 

 This collective iftar goes far beyond a simple shared meal. It embodies the core values of solidarity, empathy, and inclusion that define the community of Berkane. By offering this moment of conviviality to the inmates, the society of Berkane demonstrates its commitment to social reintegration and human dignity for all, regardless of circumstances. Moreover, the diversity of participants, from government representatives to local community members, underscores unity in diversity and strengthens social bonds. 

 During this sacred period of Ramadan, this collective iftar celebrates generosity, tolerance, and mutual understanding, thereby breaking down social barriers to build a more inclusive and compassionate future for all members of society.

Al-Badr Awareness Carnival in Berkane: For an Inclusive and Solidary Society

Under the motto "Despite our disparities, our essence is that of creators," the Al-Badr Organization for people with disabilities, women, and children orchestrated the sixth edition of its educational carnival. The essence of this initiative lay in raising awareness about autism and promoting the integration of these individuals within the community. On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, a multitude of participants, of all ages and genders, converged on this awareness carnival, expressing their solidarity with autistic children and individuals with mental disorders, with the aim of working towards their full societal integration.

 

Among the participants in this event were Ms. Nadia Attia, president of the organization, along with her executive board, as well as the delegate of national assistance, the provincial director of youth, culture, and communication, healthcare and education professionals, civil society association entities, and private and public educational institutions. During this carnival, the participants displayed various banners advocating for the integration of autistic children and youth.

 

The starting point of the carnival was the organization's headquarters, located at the Center for Initiative for the Disabled, in the Al-Majd neighborhood, heading towards the province of Berkane along Mohammed V Street

 

Nadia Attia emphasized that this event aimed to educate the public about autism, encourage solidarity, cooperation, and participation, while highlighting the importance of early detection of autistic disorders.

 

This spokesperson also advocated for the integration of individuals with autism into society, so they can lead ordinary lives and fully enjoy their rights as guaranteed by the constitution and international agreements.

Berkane in the Spotlight: Madame Nadia Attia Presents at the National Conference in Rabat to Discuss an Innovative Model for Employing People with Disabilities 

Under the prestigious patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, a national conference focused on the integration of people with disabilities in the private sector was held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in Rabat. Named “All for the Integration of People with Disabilities,” this conference brought together notable figures such as the Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, Khaled Ait Taleb, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ryad Mezouar, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mrs. Aouatif Hayar, the Minister of Solidarity and Social Integration and Family, as well as Chakib Laalaj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises. 

The objective of this national conference is to strengthen collaboration among social actors in general and to promote the integration of people with disabilities in the private sector in particular. Emphasizing the added value of the private sector, it served as a platform for exchanging experiences, encouraging new companies to engage in integration projects. 

The opening session was marked by the signing of eight framework agreements and partnerships between the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Integration and Family, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, as well as several private companies and civil organizations committed to defending the rights of disabled individuals. These agreements aim to facilitate the socio-professional integration of this category of people. 

Nadia Attia, President of the National Union of Associations Active in the Field of Mental Disabilities, highlighted the success of an experimental employment model for people with mental disabilities within private sector companies, involving more than 30 young individuals. 

She advocated for the establishment of a contractual framework between the state and the private sector to define a percentage of paid jobs reserved for people with disabilities. She concluded by emphasizing that sustainable development depends on robust economic growth, highlighting the importance of equity for inclusive development. 

On her part, Aouatif Hayar, Minister of Solidarity and Social Integration and Family, affirmed that this conference aligns with efforts to strengthen the foundations of the social state. She underscored its alignment with royal directives aimed at reinforcing the pillars of the social state, with particular attention to vulnerable categories, including people with disabilities. .

She also highlighted that the conference’s objectives are consistent with various workshops and programs launched by the Kingdom, including the royal workshops for social protection. 

Khaled Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, emphasized His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s ongoing commitment to people with disabilities, emphasizing the preservation of their rights and the improvement of their social and professional conditions, as well as their integration at all levels of social life. He discussed the ministry’s involvement in diversifying and expanding training in the field of rehabilitation, covering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychomotor therapy.

Enrollment in the Direct Social Assistance Program (ASD): Commitment to Social Well-being

The Moroccan government has launched the portal “www.Asd.ma” for the direct social assistance program. Applications can be submitted after registering with the National Population Registry (RNP) and the Unified Social Registry (RSU). After processing by the National Social Assistance Agency, a response is provided within a maximum of 30 days. The assistance, starting at the end of December, ranges from 500 to over 1,000 dirhams per family, depending on family composition and the number of children. The program aims to support families in need, with effective targeting based on the RSU. To address social and economic challenges, the project will require 25 billion dirhams in 2024, increasing to 29 billion annually from 2026. Two bills have been approved to facilitate implementation. The program aims to cover 60% of families not included in social security schemes, with an eligibility threshold set at 9.74 points. The registration in RSU until September 2023 includes 2.8 million households, laying the groundwork for significant social change.
