Discovering Digital Governance: The Delegation from UNDP and the School of International and Public Affairs Visits Berkane.

A group of students from the School of International and Public Affairs, accompanied by a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), recently embarked on an enriching experience in Berkane. The day was entirely dedicated to exploring and understanding the innovative model of integrated digital territorial governance implemented in the Province.

The visit began with an in-depth presentation of Berkane’s integrated digital territorial governance model, in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Ali Habouha, Governor of the Province of Berkane. Students and UNDP representatives had the opportunity to discover the initiatives and technologies implemented to modernize and optimize local resource management. This first part of the day allowed everyone to grasp the tangible benefits of integrating digital technologies into local governance, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and citizen participation.

The second part of the day featured a conference on artificial intelligence, led by Dr. Mohamed Medwani, a prominent expert in the field. The event took place at the National School of Artificial Intelligence and Digital in Berkane. Dr. Medwani shared his in-depth knowledge of recent developments in artificial intelligence, highlighting its impact on various sectors of society. Participants had the opportunity to interact, ask questions, and discuss the ethical and social implications of this emerging technology.

The day concluded with practical workshops on artificial intelligence, led by a team of UNDP experts. These workshops provided young civil society actors and students with the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into practice and explore concrete applications of AI in the context of territorial governance. Discussions focused particularly on how digital tools can be used to address local challenges, improve public service delivery, and promote sustainable development.

This immersion in Berkane allowed students from the School of International and Public Affairs and the UNDP delegation to fully immerse themselves in the world of digital governance and artificial intelligence. The Pioneering Collaboration between SUPCOM and ENIAD Redefines the Future of Artificial Intelligence and Digital in Berkane. 

The world of artificial intelligence and digital technology has taken a promising new step with a high-level Tunisian delegation visiting the province of Berkane. This meeting, initiated following the launch of the National School of Artificial Intelligence and Digital (ENIAD), has opened exciting opportunities for collaboration between SUPCOM and ENIAD. 

The delegation, led by Mr. Ridha Bouallegue, Director of the Higher School of Communications in Tunis (SUPCOM), also included Mr. Rachid Hamza, Director of Studies, and Mr. Ali Benbrahim, emeritus professor at SUPCOM and a member of Fiware. 

The central point of this visit was the realization of a student-teacher exchange agreement between ENIAD and SUPCOM. This initiative aims to bridge two pioneering institutions in the field of technology and artificial intelligence, providing students and teachers with a unique opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills. 

In parallel with this academic collaboration, the delegation seized the opportunity to explore other avenues of cooperation through technical and academic expertise exchange. Fruitful meetings took place with digital and technological entities in the province, such as Majal Berkane and DGNTI, as well as with elected councils, including the Provincial Council.  

The goal was to delve into the potential of each party, discover technological advancements, and ongoing innovative projects. The digitalization of administrative processes was a focal point of discussions, highlighting Berkane’s successes in this domain. 

The visit also opened stimulating prospects for future collaborations. Discussions centered around crucial themes like smart cities, green technology, and other innovative initiatives. This exchange opportunity strengthened the ties between SUPCOM and Berkane, laying the foundation for a fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership. 

Mr. Ali Benbrahim expressed enthusiasm about the future of this collaboration, emphasizing that “collective intelligence and collaboration between institutions are essential for shaping a promising technological future 

In conclusion, this visit was much more than a mere academic encounter. Educate to Secure in Berkane: The Innovations of the Digital Pathways Association in Road Safety Awareness

Road safety awareness is of paramount importance in our modern society, where mobility is ubiquitous. Road safety rules are not merely imposed directives but fundamental principles aimed at safeguarding lives, preventing accidents, and promoting harmonious coexistence on our roads.

The activities organized by the Digital Pathways Association on the occasion of the National Road Safety Day reflect an innovative approach to addressing this vital issue. By integrating metaverse virtual reality technologies, the association has made learning road safety rules not only informative but also engaging. The use of a smart road circuit, programmed with robotics, offers a practical and fun experience, facilitating the understanding of concepts, especially for the younger audience.

The involvement of children in this initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of such interactive methods in instilling road safety habits from a young age. By understanding and applying the rules, children become responsible citizens on the road, thereby helping to reduce the risk of accidents.

The educational session in English on how to use the road is another important aspect of this initiative. Exploring the Future: El Kaoutar Students Dive into Innovation at Majal Berkane

On Wednesday, November 23rd, students from the private institution El Kaoutar embarked on an exciting journey into the heart of innovation and territorial intelligence by visiting the Majal Berkane complex. This educational initiative, focused on digital technology and artificial intelligence, allowed students to get a firsthand look at how these technological advancements are transforming and enhancing life in the city of Berkane.

The visit provided a captivating immersion into a range of innovative projects initiated by the teams at Majal Berkane, positioning the city at the forefront of the digital revolution.

  1. Intelligent Traffic Management: Students had the opportunity to explore the behind-the-scenes of the "Intelligent Traffic Management" project. They discovered how cutting-edge technologies are used to regulate traffic flow, minimize congestion, and optimize movement within the city. This initiative demonstrated how technology can be a powerful tool for improving urban mobility
  2. Electric Charging Stations: The transition to more sustainable mobility was highlighted with the "Electric Charging Stations" project. Students were able to understand how Berkane is actively promoting electric vehicles by facilitating access to convenient charging points, thus contributing to a more environmentally friendly city.
  3. Berkane We Can: The visit also shed light on the community project "Berkane We Can." Students explored how technology is used as a catalyst to mobilize the local community. Online platforms encourage citizen participation, thereby strengthening Berkane's social fabric.
  4. Tech Center: The Tech Center, a true epicenter of innovation, captured the students' imagination. This research and development space is dedicated to creating innovative solutions. Students had the opportunity to engage with passionate professionals and discover the latest technological advancements.
  5. Incubation Center: The visit concluded at the Incubation Center, a space dedicated to supporting local start-ups. Students met dynamic entrepreneurs and understood how Majal Berkane encourages the creation of innovative businesses, nurturing the city's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

This immersive experience allowed students to envision a futuristic Berkane propelled by innovative projects. Berkane's smart city reveals itself to be a laboratory of ideas where innovation and technology combine to shape a promising future.

Glow of Independence: Celebration and Recognition at the Al-Fadl Center for Human Development in Berkane

On the memorable occasion of the glorious Independence Day, the Al-Fadl Center for Human Development in Berkane organized, on November 18th, an event of recognition graced by the distinguished presence of Mr. Mohamed Ali Habouha, Governor of the Province of Berkane, and Mr. Mohammed Jelloul, President of the Provincial Council. Also present were the presidents of the various municipalities of the Berkane province, educational executives, and the parents of the beneficiaries, all gathered to celebrate the completion of the trainees' period of training.

The center, dedicated to human development, currently has 317 beneficiaries and 50 trainees, specializing in various fields such as hairdressing, cooking, sewing, and carpentry. Its commitment is to ensure the continuity of youth education, empower them to access the job market, while contributing to the reduction of both material and moral violence. The Second Chance program of the New Generation represents an educational product with comprehensive qualifications.

Governor Mohammed Ali Habouha played a crucial role in the development of the center by giving it attention, affection, and support. Similarly, the president of the provincial council made significant contributions by providing various services, including the installation of solar energy and the construction of three sections. Benefactors also played a commendable role, and the praiseworthy efforts of the educational executives were particularly highlighted.

The ceremony was marked by the presentation of certificates and awards by the governor to the graduates of the 2023/2022 group, also known as the Independence group. A symbolic celebration of the success of the trainees and the dedication of all stakeholders involved in this innovative project.

Glory and Innovation in Berkane: The 7th Student Forum Celebrates Agricultural Advances with the Presence of the Minister of Agriculture

The territory of Berkane hosted the 7th edition of the Student Forum, held on November 17th at the Office of Vocational Training and Job Promotion (OFPPT) in Zraib Berkane. This event was honored by the presence of Mr. Mohamed Seddiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, along with Mr. Mohamed Ali Habouha, Governor of the Province of Berkane, Mr. Mohammed Jelloul, President of the Provincial Council, and the President of the Oriental Chamber of Agriculture, alongside the presidents of the various municipalities of the Berkane province. Many actors and stakeholders from the agriculture and vocational training sectors were also present. 

 The event was marked by various activities, including the inauguration of a new program titled "Ornamental Crops and Green Spaces Management" at the Institute of Technology and Applied Sciences (ITSA) in Zraib. This program addresses the growing needs of the Berkane territory in terms of ecology and sustainable development. In parallel, exhibitions and exhibitors from across Morocco presented their projects focused on GreenTech and ornamental crops. Among them were projects such as the Multiplication Greenhouse, the Shading Breeding Greenhouse, BEAT Berkane, Agrossar, illustrating an intelligent and sustainable economic and ecological model placing the citizens of Berkane at the heart of concerns. 

In his speech, the Minister praised the efforts made by territorial actors to promote vocational training in agriculture and related services, thus continuing the Green Morocco plan. He also highlighted the ministry's vision for promoting investments in the agricultural sector, as well as action plans aimed at creating jobs and increasing the employment rate in the agricultural sector. 

 

In parallel with the 7th edition, exciting sports competitions were carefully orchestrated, placing students at the center of the action, excelling in various disciplines such as running, chess, table tennis, basketball, and football. These sports events sparked dynamic participation, bringing together young people from different Moroccan cities such as Laayoune, Errachidia, Rabat, Larache, Oujda, among others. The results of these competitions were praised with awards and recognitions presented by the Minister and the Governor, thus highlighting the efforts and talent of the participants.

Seminar by Majal Berkane at the Polydisciplinary Faculty of Nador: A Deep Exploration of Precision Agriculture

The opening of Berkane's ecosystem to the university and scientific research reflects a vision firmly focused on the future. By fostering close collaboration between local stakeholders and academic institutions, the province of Berkane is committed to a development dynamic centered on knowledge and innovation. This openness not only enriches local knowledge but also stimulates scientific research by leveraging the skills and resources of universities. The values of sharing and transferring knowledge occupy a central place in this approach. The transmission of knowledge thus becomes an essential lever for progress, creating an ecosystem where education and research harmoniously converge. This promising approach strengthens Berkane's social and economic fabric, placing education as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

In this perspective, the seminar titled "AIOT-Enhanced Ecofarming with ESKE: an Environmental Solution for Knowledgeable Ecofarming," led by Dr. Zakaria CHAROUH, Director of the Innovation Lab at Majal Berkane for innovation and territorial intelligence, is part of the "Precision Agriculture" module. The ESKE project aims to promote sustainable agriculture and inclusive local growth, thus ensuring efficient resource management. This initiative is based on the integration of advanced technologies related to the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence (AIoT), allowing for complete automation of the irrigation process to provide farmers with advanced and affordable technology, ensuring economical use.

This initiative embodies a bold approach by the leaders of the Berkane territory and the local development company Majal Berkane, seeking to leverage technological advancements for the benefit of the territory. It involves a dedicated and multidisciplinary team specializing in AIoT, environment, agriculture, and social sciences. With the ultimate goal of scaling the project to a larger extent, the ESKE program is committed to promoting sustainable development while maintaining an economical and accessible approach for local farmers.

Birth of a new educational project in Berkane focusing on technology and robotics: STEAM  

The STEAM project was officially launched this Thursday, September 21, at the Imam Al-Ghazali public school in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Ali Habouha, Governor of the Province of Berkane, and Mr. Mohammed Jelloul, President of the Provincial Council, along with a range of partners and local officials. 

This educational project, encompassing the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, was conceived and implemented through the collaboration of a set of partners and local actors, including the Regional Academy of Education and Training, the Provincial Association for the Development and Generalization of Education (APPGE), the National Initiative for Human Development, the Local Development Company Majal Berkane, as well as the company BITBOT. 

The main objective of this project is to make the world of robotics and artificial intelligence accessible to all layers of society, with a particular emphasis on students. It aims to strengthen critical and logical thinking while promoting the development of mental and cognitive abilities among young students, regardless of their age groups and academic levels, as well as among teachers in public education. 

This project is intended to benefit more than 1000 children, as well as over 5000 students from various academic levels.

Field Visit to the Municipal Slaughterhouses of Berkane by Health Technician Students

After a few months since their inauguration and commissioning, the municipal slaughterhouses of Berkane, managed by the Local Development Company Hayat Berkane, have positioned themselves as a production unit in compliance with international quality standards. This was underscored by the "Sanitary Approval of Food Establishments and Companies" granted by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA).

In response to its civic and societal responsibility, Hayat Berkane hosted around thirty health technician students specializing in environmental health, accompanied by their professors from the Higher Institute of Nursing and Health Techniques in Oujda, for a documentary visit held on Saturday, June 10, at the slaughterhouse premises. The aim was to confront their theoretical knowledge with professional reality and to understand it closely in a concrete manner.

The visit entailed an exploration of the premises, equipment, and technology used in slaughterhouse management, as well as a presentation on the quality management system through which the management and production processes are operated. Additionally, there was a responsive presentation on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, a method for controlling food safety, delivered by the slaughterhouse management and technical staff. They also engaged in an exchange session, addressing a variety of questions posed by the health technicians and the slaughterhouse officials and technicians.
